JIM JONES SHOOTING RANGE:
The Jim Jones Shooting Range began operation in
1981 under a United States Forest Service Special Use Permit
with Gila County. The Range has been developed, maintained,
and operated by the Tonto Rim Sports Club under a Letter of
Agreement with the County since that date. Operations and Development
of the Range are overseen by the Northern Gila County Range
Commission, which reports to the Gila County Board of Supervisors,
and serves as a sole point of contact between the Tonto Rim
Sports Club and Local, County, State, and Federal Agencies.
The Range is open to the Public on Saturdays from 9 AM to
5 PM with a volunteer Range Safety Officer provided by the
Tonto Rim Sports Club. In addition to the Public and Club member
shooting activities, for the last 27-years the Range has hosted
law enforcement officers from Arizona State Parks, Department
of Public Safety, Payson Police, Gila County Sheriffs, Arizona
Game and Fish, U.S. Forest Service, National Guard, Federal
Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Bureau
of Indian Affairs.
